Watch Phillies prospects Rhys Hoskins and Scott Kingery compete in a mini Home Run Derby

While actual baseball players regularly get the authentic experience of hitting real baseballs over real fences in real stadiums, us laypeople aren't so fortunate. Our home runs are traditionally relegated to backyards and public parks with plastic bats and foam balls. So when we invited Phillies top prospects Rhys Hoskins and Scott Kingery to compete in a home run derby with us, we knew we would have to level the playing field.
We provided the bats and balls, while they provided the superior baseball talent and beautiful Triple-A stadium. We held a rock-paper-scissors draft lottery, drafted our respective derby teammates and prepared for a showdown for the ages.
Kingery and Hoskins currently sit at No. 56 and No. 71 respectively on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 prospects list. The second baseman Kingery earned a promotion to Triple-A Lehigh Valley in late June after hitting a preposterous 18 homers in 69 games for Double-A Reading. Hoskins had been crushing Triple-A pitching to the tune of .284/.385/.581 with 29 homers before being called up by the Phillies on Thursday. He'll start in left field and bat seventh for Philadelphia against the Mets in his Major League debut.
