Today in Baseball History: King Felix makes his first career homer a grand slam

After 11 years in the Major Leagues, you probably know Felix Hernandez as the ace of the Mariners' rotation -- the 3.11 career ERA, the American League Cy Young Award, the perfect game. Perhaps you also know that he excels in the fields of trollingAdrian Beltre and living a life of swag. But, thanks to a career spent in the American League, one thing you probably don't know about Felix Hernandez is that he's secretly an All-Star slugger.
Want proof? Allow us to take you back to June 23, 2008, when the Mariners traveled to Shea Stadium to face Johan Santana and the Mets. It was a highly anticipated pitchers' duel -- that is, until King Felix, in just his 10th career at-bat, took Santana deep for an opposite-field grand slam.

Hernandez was the first AL pitcher to pull off the feat in 37 years, and all this time later, he still won't let anybody forget about it:
"Yeah, we all know Felix hit a grand slam," current Seattle manager Scott Servais told MLB.com's Greg Johns. "That's part of his deal. It's 'Hi, I'm Felix Hernandez. Did you know I hit a home run?'"
In his defense, if we hit a grand slam in a big league game, we would definitely introduce ourselves like Troy McClure, too.
