These players have been traded the most in history

For most players, being traded is something of a rare occurrence. But, there are some for whom being part of a trade is almost their default mode of being. For those players, the question at the Deadline usually isn't whether they'd be traded, but where they would be traded to.
Now that this season's trade deadline has come and gone, let's look at the players who have been traded most frequently in their careers.

Dick Littlefield (8 times)
Littlefield only had a nine-year Major League career, but he managed to get traded eight times. Oddly enough, the most famous trade he was involved in didn't even count to that total: In 1956, the Giants traded him to the Dodgers for Jackie Robinson. However, the trade was voided when Robinson chose to retire rather than report to the Giants.
Willie Montanez (8 times)
Unlike Littlefield, Montanez added a trade to his ledger as the result of a voided deal. The Cardinals traded Curt Flood to the Phillies in 1969, but Flood refused to report to the team. Instead of Flood, Cardinals sent Montanez in what would be his first in a record-setting career of transactions.
Jesse Chavez (7 times)
On July 19, Chavez moved into a tie for second place when the Rangers traded him to the Cubs. It was the fourth Deadline trade he was a part of, having previously changed teams around the Trade Deadline in 2006, 2010 and 2016. Chavez is set to hit free agency after this season, so it'll be difficult for him to move up this list as he nears his 35th birthday.
Ron Villone (7 times)
One of the more common narratives around the trade deadline involves contenders looking to bolster their bullpen, particularly with the elusive lefty reliever. Villone -- a left-handed reliever -- had a 15-year career, so of course he was involved in a whopping seven trades in his career. He was traded at both the 1995 and 1996 deadlines in deals that, respectively, brought Andy Benes to the Mariners and Greg Vaughn to the Padres.
Chuck McElroy (7 times)
Like Villone, McElroy spent over a decade in the Majors as a left-handed reliever. The D-backs drafted him in the 1997 expansion draft and traded him to the Rockies on the very same day.
History is full of players who have been traded six times, but there are two active players to keep an eye on as they try to catch Chavez.
Edwin Jackson (6 times)
Jackson has played for 13 teams in his MLB career -- tied with Octavio Dotel for most all time -- so it's not particularly surprising that he's been involved in a number of trades. Somehow, he hasn't been in a trade since he was involved in a 2011 Deadline deal ... with Dotel.
Yunel Escobar (6 times)
Since the Braves picked him in the second round of the 2005 Draft, Escobar has only changed teams via trade. He's currently a free agent, so if he wants a shot at moving up the leaderboard, he'll have to break that streak first.
