Our home run king hath returned: Wily Mo Pena reportedly signed by the Indians
We've written a lot about Wily Mo Pena on this blog -- from his time bashing dingers off domes in Japan to hitting near inside-the-park homers in the Dominican Winter League. We've, for some reason, written about him twice this offseason. We pleaded with teams to sign him all the way back in 2014.
And finally, now, just when the world might need him most, Wily Mo Pena has reportedly inked a Minor League deal with Cleveland:
Funnily enough, the last time Pena was in the Majors (in 2011!) he did some damage to the Indians:
The 35-year-old has 84 career MLB longballs and had his best power season in 2004 -- when he hit 26 in 336 at-bats. He also hit 71 combined during his three more recent seasons in Japan. Each one as wonderful as the next:
Welcome home, Wily Mo. May the wind always be at your back, so that your dingers may land even farther than we could have dreamed.
