Watch footage from the day Lou Gehrig's streak began and Babe Ruth returned to the Yankees

Babe Ruth. Lou Gehrig. When you think of MLB legends, these two often come up in conversation.
But that's the thing about players who excelled in the early stages of the game we all enjoy: Very few of us were able to see them play. There was no social media, no TV, no real way to watch these greats play other than going out to a stadium.
Thanks to some unearthed video from the University of South Carolina's vaults, however, some rarely-seen footage of Gehrig and Ruth on the 1925 Yankees had made its way online.

It all has to do with the date June 1, 1925. On that day, the Yankees battled Walter Johnson and the Washington Senators.New York lost, 5-3, but the game had significant ramifications for the future.
You see, Ruth was making his season debut after a battle with a stomach ulcer. He went 0-for-2 with a walk before being replaced by Bobby Veach, but the real story here was Gehrig.
After making a pinch-hitting appearance in the June 1 game, Gehrig started the next day in place of Wally Pipp -- and didn't relent his spot in the Yankees' lineup for 2,130 consecutive games.
