Salvador Perez turned on the jets for just his 3rd career stolen base

When it comes to the basepaths, the Royals' Salvador Perez is much more accustomed to throwing baserunners out than swiping bags himself. Entering Thursday's 16-4 win over the Tigers, he only had two career stolen bases, none since April 8, 2015. He was the only active player with more than 700 career games to have such a small number of thefts.
There was little reason for Michael Fulmer to pay Perez much attention when he was on first base with the Royals up, 5-0, in the bottom of the third. Miguel Cabrera wasn't even holding him on.
So, Salvy stunned them:

Perez was already well on his way by the time Fulmer delivered his pitch -- not a bad jump. It was a small measure of revenge for Perez, too, who had reached base when Fulmer plunked him.
His teammates were shocked, too. "That was definitely a sight to see, him taking advantage of the situation with Fulmer going slow on him to the plate," said Lorenzo Cain to MLB.com's Wilson Alexander. "To see him go there, everybody was shocked."
The best part of Perez's thievery? He's now 3-for-3 in stolen-base attempts over his seven-year career. The man knows how to pick his spots.
