Back in April, Ryan Howard -- former MVP, Rookie of the Year and two-time regular season home-run title holder -- was relegated to a part-time role with the Phillies. He was 36 years old and hadn't had more than 23 homers in a season in four years. We missed Ryno. We wanted baseball-destroying Ryno again.
Well, post-All-Star break, Howard has thrived in his new duties -- hitting .301 with seven dingers and 18 RBIs in his last 23 games. And with the score tied, 3-3, and the bases loaded during a 10-6 win over the Rockies on Friday, Howard, a la Cher, turned back time with a towering, 455-foot grand slam:
Jim Thome, who was inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame pregame, greatly enjoyed the moonshot.
Something he knows a thing or two (or 101) about while wearing a Philadelphia uniform.
