Many members of the baseball world including legends, media, front-office personnel and fans voted for the season's best moments and players during the Esurance MLB Awards.. Winners were revealed on MLB Network Friday with a particular category that excited us: The Best Fan Catch.
The honor of Best Fan Catch went to brother and sister-in-law Kirk and Sarah Head for their moment during Game 5 of the World Series.
The two were at the epic showdown when Yasiel Puig launched a two-run homer in the top of the ninth. Sarah happened to make the catch and showed the ball off. Kirk, being the Astros fan he is, found displeasure in the acquisition of the ball and hurled it back on to the field.
This has occurred before, but during a World Series game? Talk about loyalty to your team.
There's more to it than just being a fan, however.
You see, this was his plan all along. Kirk explained he made the decision that any ball he got his hands on would be thrown away. And that's exactly what he did. And don't worry, Sarah was completely OK with it -- despite not being the one to toss it.
The family should have no problem finding anything to talk about over Thanksgiving dinner this year.
