Randy Johnson showed a bit of rust as he airmailed his first pitch at Chase Field

Randy Johnson carved out a Hall of Fame career primarily on the strength of his stuff -- a fastball that could touch 100 mph and a wipeout slider -- but his command was often underrated, especially for a 6'10" pitcher. After struggling with command early in his career, by the time Johnson led the D-backs to the World Series in 2001, he was walking fewer than three batters per nine innings.
Prior to Thursday night's 6-3 win over the Mets, members of the 2002 D-backs -- including Johnson -- threw out the first pitch. The Big Unit showed off some uncharacteristic wildness, nearly overshooting Steven Souza Jr.
Based on how he does some arm circles after the pitch, maybe Johnson could have used a more vigorous warmup before taking the mound. Regardless, it's clear that first pitches aren't as easy as they look.
