Clear your fall schedule, because FOX has greenlit a series about the first female player in MLB

Last we had heard of "Pitch," the series following the first female player in MLB history, FOX was just ordering it to pilot. Well, we've got some good news: It will be coming to your televisions this fall as FOX has ordered it to series.
The show follows the fictional Ginny (played by Kylie Bunbury) as she makes history by using her screwball and arsenal of breaking balls to make a big league roster. Even better: She'll be pitching for the Padres. That's right, this won't be a show with teams like the Rochester Ringworms and Des Moines Desperados -- having teamed up with MLB, "Pitch" will not only have real uniforms and teams, but also shoots in Petco Park when the real-life Padres are on the road.
As executive producer Dan Fogelman told The Hollywood Reporter
"[It] felt very important to us that it be with Major League Baseball. I didn't want to do fictional baseball teams and uniforms and that sort of thing. I was very hopeful because it's such a natural fit between Fox and MLB."
That won't be the only difference separating "Pitch" from the shows and movies that look like the creators only ever saw a drawing of the sport. Every script is not just checked by people in and around baseball, but former pitchers C.J. Nitkowski and Gregg Olson, along with professional trainer Alan Jaeger, are there to make sure the pitching and fielding look and feel real.
With players like Mo'ne Davis and Melissa Mayeux out there, here's to hoping for this fiction to soon predict reality.
