Photo of the Day: American soldiers play baseball in England's Wembley Stadium during WWII
Wembley Stadium in London is home to England's national soccer team, which is why it might be a bit surprising to see people playing what is emphatically not soccer in the photo above. Taken during a casual game in the summer of 1942, it depicts a team from the American Air Corps (predecessor to the Air Force) and a team from the Army blowing off some steam by playing baseball.
But it's not the only time baseball has been played at Wembley. In August of 1943, Canadian and American troops played an exhibition game in front of fans, donating the proceeds from the event to the Red Cross:
Since both games were played in a national landmark of such significance, we're OK with calling this "British baseball." They're no Bolton Robots of Doom, but we'll take it.
