Shortstop Pedro Florimon hit a homer -- as a pitcher -- after pitching a 1-2-3 eighth inning

Shortstop Pedro Florimón is an important asset for the Phillies. And while Philadelphia lost to the Cardinals, 12-4, on Friday night, Florimon came up big in another way.
Having been forced to go to the bullpen in the fourth inning, Phillies manager Gabe Kapler wanted to avoid using a third reliever in the bottom of the eighth, his team trailing, 12-2. So Florimon trotted in from shortstop to the mound ... and retired Steven Baron, Dexter Fowler and Kolten Wong for a tidy 1-2-3 frame.

Florimon, then technically in the scorecard as a pitcher, came up to the plate in the ninth and swatted a solo homer. As a pitcher. After throwing a perfect inning.
It was his first hit of the game. And, thanks to his adventures around the diamond, a pretty fun one.
"I just wanted to briefly touch on Florimon," Kapler told MLB.com contributor Joe Harris after the game. "What an inspiration he has been to our team and I walked over to him and said, 'Flo, I'd really like you to pitch this inning for us' and he just looked at me and said, 'Absolutely, I got you.' And he went out there and hit a big bomb for us. He's just been the consummate professional for us. He was the standout of the night."
