Clayton Richard was all smiles after hitting his second career home run

It is often -- if not always -- the case that pitchers are not the most dangerous hitters in a lineup. Half of the teams in the league play under rules that don't require pitchers to hit at all.
So when Padres pitcher Clayton Richard hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning of Sunday's game against the Marlins to tie the score at 2, he was understandably happy. In fact, he couldn't get the smile off his face as he rounded the bases:

It was only the second home run of his nine-year Major League career, so Richard's smile lasted longer than his quick trot around the bases:

Even manager Andy Green was excited for his pitcher. "[I] turned him loose in a bunting situation…[but] didn't see that one coming," he told MLB.com's Patrick Pinak. "But it's good for somebody like him to experience that."
Richard was quick to credit Green for turning his bat loose. "You have to give the manager all the credit," he said. But that didn't stop him from reveling in his accomplishment as he went around the bases. "It's fun going around the bases and you see the bullpen out there having a good time, the guys in the dugout having a good time. As pitchers we don't really get that opportunity that often. You have to enjoy it."
The homer was Richard's first since 2012, so you'll forgive him if he keeps smiling for a little longer.
