Just over three years into his Major League career, Phillies center fielder Odúbel Herrera has already built quite the reputation at the plate. It's not just that he's a good hitter, which he is. He's also known for his love of the bat flip. He loves it so much, he has been known to flip after everything, from dingers to walks.
During Friday night's game against the Pirates, Herrera debuted a new trick at the plate. Behold the double-fake swing before taking a pitch:
Thanks to his trickery, Herrera induced a pitch right down the middle out of Pirates starter Iván Nova. This time, he didn't have a third leg kick coming. But, now that he's seen the effectiveness of the move, he might just consider implementing a third kick and a swing next time.
Or maybe he was just having some fun. After all, that's what Herrera does.
