Matt Davidson became just the fourth player to homer three times on Opening Day

Matt Davidson and the White Sox were ready for the offseason to officially end. They broke out the bats in Kansas City and tied the MLB record for most homers by one team on Opening Day with six in a 14-7 rout of the Royals.
Leading the way was Davidson, who went deep not once, not twice, but three times:

Davidson was the first White Sox player to pull off the dinger hat trick in any game since Dan Johnson on Oct. 3, 2012. In a somewhat amusing twist, that was the last day of the 2012 MLB regular season, whereas Davidson's came on Opening Day.
Hitting three homers in a game on Opening Day is an even more remarkable feat. That had only been accomplished three other times in Major League history.
Blue Jays slugger George Bell was the first to do it. He had won the American League MVP in 1987 and on April 4, 1988, he showed why:

Bell's Opening Day was historic, but not unexpected from a man who hit 47 dingers the previous year.
The Cubs' Tuffy Rhodes was another story entirely. In 1993, he only made it into 20 games with the Astros and Cubs. He hit three home runs that year. On April 4, 1994, he matched his 1993 total in one day, all against Mets ace Dwight Gooden: 

Rhodes hit just 13 MLB homers, though he later found much more success overseas with 464 dingers in Japan. 
It would be a decade before another player matched Bell and Rhodes. They cast a long shadow over Opening Day records, so who better to fill it than one of the biggest men in baseball? Ladies and gentlemen, Dmitri Young: 

Leave it to a player nicknamed "Da Meat Hook" to club three homers on Opening Day. Davidson's now in an impressive fraternity.
