After receiving his Gold Glove Award, Matt Chapman donned golden cleats

Matt Chapman had a season for the ages at the hot corner in 2018. He was a human vacuum cleaner, making incredible plays left and right while building up a remarkable 8.2 WAR and earning down-ballot consideration for American League Most Valuable Player during the A's improbable run to the Wild Card.

After the season, Chapman earned not only the AL Gold Glove at third base, but also the Platinum Glove for the best defensive player in the league. On Friday, he was honored in a pregame ceremony with both of the trophies:

It was a big day for Chapman, and he knew he had to celebrate in style.

So what better way to commemorate winning a golden award than by wearing golden cleats for the occasion?

Those look fantastic. We can only hope that if Chapman puts up a repeat performance in 2019, he'll break out some platinum spikes, too.

If the early returns are any consideration, then Chapman has as good a shot as anyone.
