Justin Verlander couldn't help but be distracted by the Tigers' video dedication to him before his start
Justin Verlander is no stranger to Detroit. The pitcher began his career with the Tigers, earning American League MVP honors and a Cy Young Award in 2011. On Monday when he started for the Astros at Comerica Park, he received a very warm and emotional welcome from the crowd.
During his warmups, a video tribute began playing and Verlander did his best to concentrate on preparing for his outing … but he couldn't help but turn his head to watch the memories:
He eventually stopped and watched the footage in its entirety. The Tigers highlighted his rookie year in 2006, his two no-hitters, his 2,000th strikeout and his many curtain calls.
Verlander tipped his cap to the home crowd -- the same crowd that witnessed his greatness across 13 seasons.
Quite the moment.
