Josh Reddick Field breaks ground Saturday and will be accessible to kids with special needs
In October, Astros outfielder Josh Reddickdonated $1 million to the construction of a state-of-the-art baseball field in his native Effingham County, Ga. The field, which is expected to be ready for play in the spring of 2018, will break ground Saturday.
Josh Reddick Field will be part of the Clarence E. Morgan Sports Complex, which is set to feature 11 baseball fields, four soccer/football fields, a playground and walking trails. However, this field will be unique in that it will be entirely wheelchair-accessible: The artificial turf will be smooth enough to allow wheelchair mobility. It will also be fully decked out with a 10-foot by 36-foot scoreboard, stadium seating and a brick dugout.
Though Reddick will not be in attendance for Saturday's ground breaking, he is scheduled to attend the complex's grand opening on Dec. 3 as well as host a home run derby on Dec. 9.
Who knows how many future World Series champions will be inspired as a result of Reddick paying it forward?
