Joey Votto tried to chase the runner down, before going with the simpler double play

Work smarter, not harder. While that might be on a poster printed in your office building, it's a lesson that Joey Votto learned during the Reds' 5-0 loss to the Mets on Monday afternoon. After snagging a line drive by former teammate Jay Bruce (who made his first return to Cincinnati on the day), Votto went racing after Wilmer Flores. Except, "Oh yeah, that's right," Votto surely thought. "I can just step on the bag."

When given the choice between having to run and not having to run, the right choice is always not running. Good job choosing wisely, Votto.
