Facing Clayton Kershaw in Sunday's series finale between the Angels and Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, Jefry Marte had his hands full in the first inning. With the bases loaded and a full count, he struck out to end the inning and, thus, the Angels' threat.
This frustrated him, as it would you had you been in his shoes. But would you have snapped the bat over your knee as impressively as he did?
With the sting of that first-inning strikeout probably still in his mind, Marte came up in the fourth inning with two runners on didn't let himself get in a two-strike count this time. No, he just clobbered a first-pitch offering from Kershaw over the wall in left-center for a game-tying, three-run homer:
You just know that had to feel good for Marte.
This type of self-contained redemption story is always amusing when you see it played out on the diamond. In April, Carlos Gómez of the Rays went through a similar "down" moment:
... before coming out on top with a walk-off homer:
It's a roller coaster, this life.
