Javier Lopez, the man with more World Series rings than any active player, has retired

After a 14-year MLB career, Javier Lopez reportedly retired on Wednesday. The submarining lefty was about as reliable as a middle reliever can get -- posting a 3.48 ERA and giving up just 26 homers over 533 1/3 innings. He even made professional hitters like Joey Votto look like they've never played baseball before:

Most importantly, since 2014, Lopez had the title as the active player with the most World Series rings. He has four (one with the Red Sox in 2007 and three with the Giants). Although he wasn't a huge part of Boston's championship, he was integral to the Giants' recent even-year run: Lopez tallied 11 1/3 innings and struck out 14 while allowing just one earned run. His four titles also put him in a tie for sixth all-time. John Lackey (three World Series for three different teams) and former Giants teammates like Buster Posey and Madison Bumgarner are a few of the players now tied for the active lead with three. So, farewell, Javier, even though you don't have baseball any longer, you still have those precious rings.
