Remember those "Train A departed Station A going northeast at 40 mph, and Train B departed Station B going southwest at 34.7 mph" math problems in school? They were hard (and if you disagree, kudos to you for being smart).
Well, in the D-backs' 4-0 win over the Brewers on Thursday night, a baseball version of that scenario played out when Jared Hughes uncorked a wild pitch in the top of the eighth inning and ran toward home plate at _ mph. Paul Goldschmidt, the runner on third, took off for home at a speed of _ mph, which led to this pile-up at the plate when Hughes tried getting out of Goldy's way:

Good thing Hughes didn't end up replaying his bullpen tumble this time around.
"I just came in way too hot there. I thought maybe I could jump over him, but nope," Hughes told MLB.com's Adam McCalvy after the game. "He told me right away he was OK."
And while the mathematical specifications of the above play remain mysterious, somewhere, Friday night math club tutor Trevor Bauer probably knows the answer.
