Dave Roberts was used to overcoming the odds as a player. You may remember him being the catalyst for one of the greatest comebacks in baseball history:

And on Tuesday, Roberts won the NL Manager of the Year Award in his first season with the Dodgers -- overcoming pitcher injuries, player setbacks and the Giants' even-year madness. Here are some obstacles he had to navigate during the season:
- Roberts used 31 different pitchers in 2016. Clayton Kershaw, Brandon McCarthy, Brett Anderson, Scott Kazmir, Rich Hill and Hyun Jin Ryu were all injured and on the disabled list at one point or another. McCarthy, Ryu and Anderson were pretty much out the entire season -- combining for just 56 total innings pitched. Kershaw was sidelined for nearly a month and a half. Still, the pitching staff helped the team win 91 games, struck out an MLB record 1,510 batters and handed the franchise another NL West crown.
