Gorkys Hernandez nearly robbed a Carlos Santana homer -- and his efforts caused some definite confusion

A lot happened thanks to one swing of the bat by Carlos Santana in the bottom of the fifth inning of Monday's Phillies-Giants game at Citizens Bank Park.
Facing young left-hander D.J. Snelten, Santana launched an offering to deep center field. Gorkys Hernández ranged back, tracking the ball, getting into position to make a catch ... and despite a very strong effort, it eluded his clutches (and his glove), landing beyond the fence for a three-run homer:
See how Snelten is asking Buster Posey "What happened?" in the tweet above? That's because he initially thought Hernandez had caught the ball, and ran toward the plate to back up a potential throw as if he had:
As for why he might have thought Hernandez had caught the ball? Well, in addition to the stellar attempt, Gorkys did this upon crashing down to earth without the baseball:
We can see why Snelten was confused.
MLB.com's Todd Zolecki spoke to Santana about the dinger postgame:
"The only thing I saw was that he jumped. The fans were loud and then I thought 'OK. He didn't catch it.' The umpire said home run and I was like OK."
Chaos!
