The Frisco RoughRiders are officially building a lazy river in their ballpark
Update: It's officially happening!
1/25/2016:
Where are you having your next birthday party, and why is it at the Frisco RoughRiders' Dr Pepper Ballpark? Well, probably because of new plans to make it a baseball stadium/water park hybrid.
The Double-A affiliate of the Rangers experienced a significant growth in attendance last season, thanks in part to Ballpark Digest naming them the home of the Best Ballpark Renovation, which included a video board and a new saloon. RoughRiders brass came in under budget on that project, so they're looking to combine the surplus with some private funding to turn the current outfield pool into a full-on lazy river, featuring eight-foot waterfalls large enough to display projected images and advertisements.
While the RoughRiders haven't yet received approval for the project, the Dallas Morning News reports that the team's GM is hopeful that it'll happen:
Frisco RoughRiders executive vice president and general manager Jason Dambach said the pool upgrades would add to the fan experience.
"The city, as you know, they're great to work with, great partnership, very committed to keeping the ballpark fresh and modern," he said, adding, "It's going to be a really cool thing hopefully if we can get that pool project to come to fruition here at the ballpark."
This ballpark with a lazy river might be the greatest thing to happen to summer since some genius dreamed up the idea to put hot dogs inside corn bread and put it on a stick.
