Edwin Encarnacion decided to just fling his bat at this curveball and hope for the best

Edwin Encarnación leads the league this season with 91 RBIs, and 2016 marks his fifth straight year with at least 30 homers. He is, quite simply, way better at hitting baseballs than almost everybody else in the world. And yet, even Encarnacion must face defeat sometimes -- the realization that the pitcher has won this battle, fair and square.
Like the Blue Jays' 4-3 win over the Royals on Friday, for example. Facing Kelvin Herrera , Encarnacion knew there was nothing he could do with a curveball whisping across the outside corner. But he would not go gently into that good night. Instead, he got creative. More specifically, he decided to toss his bat out there and see what happened -- and what happened was "we're not sure, but it seems to have defied available physics":
For those scoring at home, that's one foul ball and one bat that made it almost all the way to first base. Encarnacion would eventually be called out on strikes, but he walked away with a far greater victory.
