Edwin Encarnacion lost his bat mid-swing but somehow made contact anyway

The 30-homer bat of Edwin Encarnación has provided some formidable swings over the years that have put fear in the hearts of many pitchers. His first swing during the Indians' 6-2 win on Monday against the Yankees, however, would not rank among his best, to say the least.
Luis Severino had just allowed a homer to Jose Ramirez and jumped ahead of Encarnacion, 0-1, with a called strike. The next pitch was nasty, an 87 mph slider dipping toward the outside corner.
Encarnacion waved ...
... and lost his bat entirely. Improbably, the bat still managed to make contact with the ball, fouling the pitch off.
Since it looked like the bat was coming toward Severino, he had to, uh, "Soulja Boy" out of the way. (Nice moves, Sevy).
No worries, though -- Severino picked it up and returned it to the bat boy himself. Then, on the very next pitch, Encarnacion made him jump again with a hard smash up the middle, but Starlin Castro snagged it and threw him out to end the inning.
You can't say that Encarnacion doesn't make things interesting out there.
