A fantastic performance at the plate by the Tigers' offense led them to a 4-3 win over the Mariners in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader. The lineup belted out 12 hits, and the afternoon at Comerica Park was also highlighted by a play from Dixon Machado.
In the top of the eighth, Nelson Cruz smacked a ground ball up the middle past pitcher Joe Jiménez. The ball bounced perfectly off the top of second base. This caused a bounce that had the potential to carom over Machado's head -- but he wasn't about to let that happen:
The second baseman read the bounce perfectly and snagged it in time to make the out at first.
Great play by Dixon.
