Did Didi Gregorius or Dansby Swanson have the better recovery play at shortstop on Monday?
A pair of terrific plays at shortstop were made within minutes of each other on Monday night, though many hundreds of miles apart. The question has to be asked: Which was better?
The first contender came from Dansby Swanson during the Braves' 3-0 loss to the Phillies. Maikel Franco hit a smash toward short that took a high bounce. Swanson got a glove on it, but it flipped upwards a bit. Not to worry:
Swanson's glove flip brought the ball right to his hand, and the throw was in time.
Shortly afterward, the Yankees were facing the Rangers in the bottom of the first inning of their game at Globe Life Park and Isiah Kiner-Falefa laced a hard liner toward Didi Gregorius. The Yanks shortstop could only knock the ball down, as it began to trickle away from him. There was still time to get the force at second, though, so he made a glove flip of his own to Gleyber Torres:
Also a strong contender!
So, on your own personal scale, which was the superior play? It's not an easy choice.
