Monday was a special day at the Cubs' Spring Training facility. It was David Ross' 41st birthday.
You remember Ross -- part-time World Series hero and world-class "Dancing With the Stars" contestant. I mean, how could you not remember him?
The Cubs certainly do, and on Monday their Spring Training facility was visited by Ross' son, Cole, who held court with the team and told some jokes ... of the perfect "dad joke" variety, as captured by Cubs manager Joe Maddon:
As Maddon told Muskat, Cole Ross struck the team as a budding comedy star:
"I'm going to become his agent. I just ask him to remain humble when the guy becomes a superstar. It's really funny stuff. David came in the other day and showed me a video of Cole in front of the school, the whole student body, doing a standup comedy routine.
"The kid did not blanch, he's that funny. We have to promote little Cole. The poise is outstanding."
Cubs strength coach Tim Buss (no stranger to antics at Spring Training) usually helms the pre-stretch stand-up comedy session, but Cole was subbing for him this time. As for the elder Ross' 41st birthday, he also received some amusing well-wishes on the internet:
Happy birthday, "Gramps"!
