It should go without saying that playing shortstop at the Major League level isn't easy. You're responsible for patrolling a big swath of infield. You have to get a good read off the bat. You have to come up with the ball cleanly, then have enough arm to make a strong throw, in time, across the diamond.
And then, as if all that wasn't enough, there's always a chance that a shard of broken bat will knock the ball out of your glove just because. Dansby Swanson learned this latter lesson the hard way during Tuesday night's 4-1 win over the Giants:
