This college outfielder submitted a candidate for catch of the year ... in January
January does not usually lend itself to baseball highlights. It's still weeks from even just pitchers and catchers reporting, and most colleges haven't started play yet, either. It's a desolate time, and the baseball community is desperate for some kind of reprieve.
Enter Austin Colvin. He's the center fielder for the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds, and they've already started their 2018 season. On Friday, they faced Arizona Christian University, and in the second inning, ACU second baseman Dom Rodriguez lifted a long fly ball to deep center.
Colvin raced back ...
... and made the kind of defensive wizardry that would make even Kevin Pillar blush.
Before long, Colvin's catch began to earn kudos, first from Astros reliever Chris Devenski, who tweeted it out himself. Who can blame him? That's an incredible play -- no matter what time of year.
