The Winter Meetings have been filled with a lot of Hot Stove tidbits to make the few days in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., interesting. And while the media has asked the hard-hitting questions to those in attendance, the Cespedes Family BBQ guys had an interview with a recently-signed Cardinals reliever to talk about his unique nickname.
The original story told the tale of Miles "The Lizard King" Mikolas who got his reptilian alias by … well, eating a lizard of course.
"We were sitting in the bullpen and guys were getting bored and there were little desert lizards running around," Mikolas told Cut4's Cespedes Family BBQ. "I'm from Florida, so we have a lot of lizards in our backyards, so I snatched one (cat-like) … and I ate the lizard."
Believe it or not, that was the first lizard he had ever consumed, and it would be the last. But that's only because the Padres' team doctor "nixed the idea" of doing it a second time.
If you're curious about the consistency of the lizard and how it tasted, click on the clip above -- if you can stomach it.
