The Mets called up veteran outfielder Carlos Gomez on Friday, putting in action his return engagement with the club with whom he began his Major League career in 2007.

Gomez didn't wait very long to make his presence felt. He didn't hit a homer or make an incredible diving catch or anything like that, but he did exhibit one of his other classic hobbies: Swinging so hard at the plate that his helmet popped off. It feels like the universe is back on track with Gomez letting loose with huge swings like this. It's just ... familiar. Comforting.

Welcome back, Carlos. We've missed you.
