Few players in baseball have as much natural ability as Carlos Correa, so when he gets ahold of a pitch, it can go a long way. Félix Hernández was the victim Monday night on Astros' Opening Day. In the fourth inning, he allowed an offering to get way too close to the middle of the plate during Correa's second at-bat.
The 2015 Rookie of the Year obliterated Hernandez's pitch deep into the Houston night, all the way onto the train tracks above the left-field bleachers at Minute Maid Park. When it finally came to rest, self-proclaimed "Astros train guy" Bobby Dynamite tracked it down.
Statcast measured Correa's blast at 111 mph off the bat and 450 feet away. That's an impressive distance, but one that still ranks behind six of the 42 other homers Correa has crushed in his short career. For Correa, it was just a matter of whether or not the ball would stay fair.
Thankfully for the Astros, the monster shot was a fair ball, and it help them beat Seattle by a score of 3-0.
No word yet on whether or not the ball caught the next train out of Houston. Correa did all that he could to help.
