During the fourth inning of Wednesday night's game against the Pirates, Brewers left fielder Hernan Perez found himself in a tricky situation. The throw from Pirates catcher Chris Stewart beat him to third on a stolen base attempt. Fortunately for Perez, he had a plan.
Seeing that David Freese had beat him to the bag, Perez pulled out a move from the basketball courts: Just let the defender run by.
Usually, the process of stealing a base centers around the goal of beating the defender and the throw to the bag. Perez flipped that process on its head, showing that, sometimes, taking a little longer to reach the base can be helpful.
