New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio proclaimed Saturday to be David Wright Day
After pinch-hitting on Friday night against the Marlins, David Wright will start on Saturday night. His 2-year-old daughter, Olivia, will throw out the first pitch to her grandfather, Wright's dad. The team has organized a postgame tribute and ceremony.
But Citi Field isn't the only place New York's longtime third baseman will be honored: New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has proclaimed Sept. 29, 2018, to be David Wright Day.
"As a seven-time All-Star, two-time Gold Glove winner, 30-30 club member and the 2013 Mets team captain," the letter reads, "Wright -- or "Captain America," as he became known after his outstanding performance in the 2013 World Baseball Classic -- has contributed much to America's pastime and is beloved by Mets fans the world over."
Couldn't have said it any better ourselves.
