But on Sunday, he learned that just as the fickle impulses of a baseball can turn one's heroics into a Photoshop meme, so too can they render one haplessly picking his cap off the trodden dirt beneath his feet.
When Ryan Goins blooped a single into shallow center field in the fifth inning of the Indians' 3-2 win over the Blue Jays on Sunday, Naquin rushed in to field it. But he was just a second late, and the ball landed, giving Goins a two-out single. And on the bounce:
