Bartolo Colon pitched against Adalberto Mondesi 16 years after facing his dad, Raul

Bartolo Colon has been pitching to Major League hitters for quite some time. He started doing it in 1997, when Destiny's Child was first becoming popular, and is still doing it in 2018, when Beyonce's fame and success dwarf any heights Destiny's Child reached. His 21 years on the mound have literally spanned generations.
In the third inning of Monday night's 6-3 win over the Royals, Colon faced Adalberto Mondesi for the first time. It may have felt a bit familiar to Colon since he faced Mondesi's father, Raul, back around the turn of the century, most recently on May 26, 2002. The young Mondesi greeted his father's former foe with an RBI double:

From 2000-02, Colon faced Raul Mondesi and held him to a .182 average with no walks, RBIs or extra-base hits in 11 at-bats. With his RBI double, then, Adalberto has already outperformed his father in this matchup in two categories. Reflecting on facing two generations of Mondesis, Colon came right to the truth of the matter. "It means I have been pitching a long time," he told MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan.
The Mondesis are now the fourth father-son duo Colon has faced in his lengthy career -- joining Clay and Cody Bellinger, Eric Young Jr. and Sr. and Cecil and Prince Fielder. With so many notable second generation players in the Minor Leagues, it may not be long until Bartolo makes it five.
To add to the significance of Colon's outing, he earned his 244th career win and passed Juan Marichal to become the winningest Dominican-born pitcher in Major League history.
