Anthony Ranaudo made the first hit of his career an opposite-field homer

Anthony Ranaudo, a pitcher with just nine big league starts, was called upon to pitch against the cross-town Cubs at Wrigley Field on Wednesday night. It's an atmosphere that players dream about as kids, but when it actually arrives, it's probably terrifying. 
Ranaudo looked good through his first five innings -- giving up zero hits to one of the best lineups in baseball. And to top it off, in the top of the fifth inning, he got his first hit of his career: an opposite-field home run. It put the Sox up, 1-0.

Ranaudo gave up his first hit in the sixth and ended up allowing two hits and three runs in 6 2/3 innings. Although the South Siders lost, 8-1, let's hope the 26-year-old's performance was good enough to earn him a spot in the White Sox revered scooter gang.
