As a coach, you're always looking for that perfect teachable moment -- an opportunity that arises organically to impart important lessons to your players. They don't come up often, so when they do, a coach needs to seize the opportunity.
During the first inning of Sunday's game against the Astros, a teachable moment flew right in front of Red Sox manager Alex Cora's face. J.D. Martinez sent a foul ball toward the Boston dugout and Cora showed off perfect fundamentals on a two-handed catch.
Now, Major Leaguers are typically pretty solid on the fundamentals themselves given that they're playing baseball on the highest level. But Cora's coaching extends beyond his team. The young fan next to the dugout likely received more than a ball from Cora. He also learned a foundational lesson: Always use two hands to catch the ball.
