Adam Engel escaped one rundown before finally getting caught in a second rundown

Getting caught in a rundown, in general, is not something you want to do on the basepaths. You're stuck between two safe havens with defenders slowly closing in on you. Your only hope of escape requires a professional athlete making a mistake on a short-range throw or catch. The odds are not in your favor.
In the eighth inning of the White Sox's 5-2 loss to the Twins Tuesday night, Adam Engel found himself in a rundown after he was caught too far off first base. Thanks to a miscue from the Twins, he was able to slide safely into second base.

Two pitches later, Tim Anderson dropped a bunt to try to advance Engel to third. After Trevor May's throw to first went awry, Engel found himself in yet another rundown -- this time between third and home. He didn't get as lucky this time around:

The lesson, of course, is that one should not try his luck in rundowns multiple times in the span of two pitches. However, thanks to some heads-up baserunning from Anderson, the White Sox still ended the play by giving up an out to get a runner on third. In that sense, the White Sox got the best outcome out of two straight rundowns, which isn't exactly easy to do.
