A.J. Pollock made a great sliding catch -- and kicked up plenty of dirt -- to end a Rockies rally

After the D-backs held on to win Wednesday's wild NL Wild Card Game, 11-8, Arizona fans may want to send a thank you note to A.J. Pollock. For it was Pollock who made sure to shut down the Rockies' rally when it was starting to look like they may take the lead.
When the Rockies forced out ace Zack Greinke after just 3 2/3 innings pitched, Andrew Chafin came on to hold the 6-4 lead. With a runner at first, Charlie Blackmon came to bat. The man who set a record for most RBIs from the leadoff spot was looking to cut the lead to one and he floated a fly ball to shallow center field. If it landed, the inning continues and who knows what happens next.
Pollock would not allow that to happen as he ran in at 29.1 feet per second as measured by Statcast to make a sliding catch to end the inning. The ball had just a 52 percent chance of being caught -- making this a three-star catch.
One person that won't be thanking him, though? The D-backs groundskeeper who will need to fix up the outfield grass after Pollock made this divot:
Worth it, though.
The D-backs will now take on the Dodgers in the NLDS. Tune in to watch Game 1 on Friday, 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. MST on TBS.
