Softballer extraordinaire, A.J. Andrews, is the first woman presented with a Rawlings Gold Glove

There's good outfield defense and there's what A.J. Andrews does for the fastpitch Akron Racers. Already this year, she's destroyed a wall in pursuit of a fly ball (that she caught, natch):
And then sacrificed her body with one of the most all-out dives you might ever see:
Andrews was rewarded for her UZR-breaking efforts at the National Pro FastPitch Championship on Saturday night as she became the very first woman awarded the Rawlings Gold Glove.
Before the event, Andrews said, "I am astonished, honestly, I was so nervous when they called my name. I didn't think it was real. If a ball is in the air, if I could get near it, I am going to go hard for it. It's really cool to get acknowledged for it."
When it came time to pick up her golden, King Midas-like hardware, she was a little overwhelmed. Fighting back tears, Andrews told the crowd, "I really pride myself on working hard. So for all the girls who want to be in our position one day, I would just say this is what hard work gets you. I like to go hard and I'm really excited to get acknowledged for this. I'm a wreck, but it's really truly an honor and a blessing and I can't thank everyone enough for this opportunity."
You can watch Andrews put her defensive skills to work on Sunday. The Racers trail the USSSA Pride 0-1 in the best-of-three Championship semifinals and will need to win twice in a possible doubleheader to have a chance to play the winner of the Chicago Bandits-Scrap Yard Dawgs series for a shot at the title.
