Angels sign RHP Luis García and RHP Adam Cimber
ANAHEIM – The Angels today agreed to a one-year, $4.25 million contract with RHP Luis García and a one-year, $1.65 million contract with RHP Adam Cimber.
García, 36, appeared in 61 games for the Padres in 2023, posting a 2-3 record and 4.07 ERA (59.2 IP – 27 ER) with 53 strikeouts, while logging 10 holds out of the bullpen. García’s 61% groundball rate ranked third among N.L. relievers in 2023 (min. 50 IP), and he allowed just six home runs during the season, while right-handed batters to a .214 batting average against.
A native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, García made his Major League debut for Philadelphia in 2013 and has totaled 485 career appearances across 11 Major League seasons with the Phillies (2013-18), Angels (2019), Rangers (2020), Cardinals (2021) and Padres (2022-23). Since 2021, he has recorded a 3.62 ERA (154 IP – 62 ER) with 155 strikeouts and has pitched in more than 60 games in each of the last two seasons. García was originally signed by the Dodgers as an international free agent in 2004.
Cimber, 33, was originally selected by San Diego in the ninth round of the 2013 Draft out of the University of San Francisco and is one of nine Major League right-handers to make at least 320 pitching appearances since his Major League debut with the Padres in 2018. Since 2021, he has recorded a 3.15 ERA (163 IP – 57 ER) with 121 strikeouts across 171 relief appearances and tied for the Major League lead with 77 games pitched for Toronto during the 2022 season.
A Portland, OR native Cimber has compiled a career ERA of 3.49 (299.1 IP – 116 ER) across parts of six Major League seasons with San Diego (2018), Cleveland (2018-20), Miami (2021) and Toronto (2021-23).
