Injuries & Moves: Pérez, Bart head to IL; Hayes returns

May 28: LHP Martín Pérez, C Joey Bart to IL; 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes activated off IL; C Grant Koch selected from Triple-A Indianapolis
Pérez (left groin strain) and Bart (left thumb injury) both exited Sunday's game with injuries and head to the injured list, with their placements on the IL retroactive to May 27.
Hayes, who was dealing with lower back inflammation, was hitting .240 with a homer and 11 RBIs over 129 at-bats when he went on the IL on May 11.
The 27-year-old Koch went 9-for-54 (.167) with two doubles, one home run and five RBIs in 17 games this season with Triple-A Indianapolis before being added to the Major League taxi squad on May 22.
10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST
RHP Bubba Chandler (forearm; No. 3 on Pirates' Top 30 prospects list)
Expected return: Soon
Chandler was removed from his Double-A start on May 17 after walking five of his seven batters faced, and he was placed on the 7-day injured list as a precaution. He threw a side session on May 24, and assuming all goes well, he will progress to games soon. (Last updated: May 25)
LHP Marco Gonzales (left forearm strain)
Expected return: 2024
Gonzales has started a plyometric program, which is the last stage before beginning to throw. Gonzales has not pitched since April 13, but the Pirates have remained optimistic throughout his rehab that he would return this season. (Last updated: May 25)
LHP Ryan Borucki (left triceps inflammation)
Expected return: 2024
Borucki is currently asymptomatic and is starting a plyometric program, which is the last stage before beginning to throw. He was placed on the injured list on April 7, and while it's been a longer stint on the IL than originally expected, he is building towards a return. (Last updated: May 25)

RHP Johan Oviedo (Tommy John surgery)

Oviedo has started a throwing program at the Pirates' Florida complex as of the week of May 20 now that he's crossed the six-month mark from his surgery. He is throwing to 45 feet, and he should progress to 60 feet soon. (Last updated: May 25)
C Jason Delay (right knee soreness)
Expected return: June
Delay is starting a rehab assignment with Bradenton, and he will have it transferred to Triple-A Indianapolis before too long. Delay's stint on the injured list is retroactive to April 1, so he will be eligible to come off the IL next week. (Last updated: May 25)
C Endy Rodríguez (right elbow surgery)
Expected return: 2025
Rodríguez will transfer his rehab to the Pirates' Florida complex. The team envisions getting clearance for him to start a throwing program later in May. However, it's still not expected that Rodríguez will be able to play competitive games this season. (Last updated: May 17)
RHP Dauri Moreta (UCL surgery)
Expected return: 2025
Moreta underwent UCL reconstruction surgery in March, confirming fears that he will not pitch in 2024. The team anticipates a full recovery in approximately 14-16 months, with the hope that it might be on the shorter side since he is a reliever.
