Had an All-Star first season with KC, setting career highs in starts (34), innings (216), ERA (3.67) and quality starts (23)...equaled his previous career high with 156 strikeouts (also 2006)...he tied for the league-lead in starts and finished eighth in innings...Selected to his first A.L. All-Star team, but did not pitch...His 3.67 ERA was the best by a Kansas City starting pitcher since Kevin Appier posted a 3.40 ERA in 1997 while his 23 quality starts tied for the 14th-best mark in a Royals uniform and the most since 1993...Posted just a 9-13 record due mostly to the worst run support in the American League (3.92 runs/9 innings) and the fourth-worst support in baseball...the Royals scored 12 runs for him while he was on the mound in his 13 losses...Lasted at least 7 innings in 15 of his 34 starts and at least 6 innings in 27 of the 34...Was incredibly consistent striking out between 22 and 29 in each of the six months of the season...Named Royals Pitcher of the Month for April after going 2-1 with a 2.18 ERA (41.1 IP, 45 H, 10 ER) in 6 starts...Meche became the 18th different pitcher to start Opening Day for the Royals when he toed the rubber on April 2 against the Red Sox...he was also sixth consecutive different pitcher to start the opener for Kansas City dating to 2002... he earned a 7-1 win by allowing just one run on six hits in 7.1 innings...he walked one and struck out six...the 7.1 innings were the most by a KC starter on Opening Day since Bret Saberhagen went 8.0 innings in a 5-3 loss to Toronto on April 4, 1988...Through 9 starts, Meche's 1.91 ERA was tied for the 4th-best mark among Royals pitchers to begin a season and tied for the 2nd-best mark to begin a Royals career...only Bret Saberhagen (1.66 in 1987), Kevin Appier (1.76 in 1992) and Larry Gura (1.86 in 1980) have started a season with a better ERA...Lost 5 straight starts from May 19 to June 9 before winning 4 straight decisions over a 7-start period from June 15 to July 20...lost 6 straight decisions in a 9-start span from July 25 to Sept. 9...Did not allow more than 3 runs in any of his final 10 starts, recording a 2.97 ERA over that span...Recorded his fifth career complete game in a 3-2 loss at Baltimore on Sept. 24.

Pitched at AA San Antonio and was 0-3, 10.38 in six starts (21.2 IP, 25 ER), before going to the bullpen on May 7...was 3-1, 6.16 in 12 relief appearances (19.0 IP, 13 ER) before returning to rotation on July 20... 1-2, 3.33 in final seven starts (24.1 IP, 9 ER)...was scored on in just three of final 10 games (29.1 IP, 9 ER)...pitched for Lara in the Venezuelan Winter League and was 2-1, 3.54 in five starts (28.0 IP, 11 ER).

Spent entire season on the disabled list recovering from surgery; had arthroscopic surgery on Feb. 6, to repair partially frayed rotator cuff; surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews...had exploratory surgery in his right AC joint on October 3.

First full season in Majors was cut short with arm troubles...lost first four decisions before evening record at 4-4 with a 3.78 ERA in 15 starts...placed on the 15-day DL with a strained right shoulder May 30, retroactive to May 29...was 3-0 with a 1.61 ERA in the month of June...earned first career complete game and shutout in rain-shortened (5 innings) 7-0 victory at Kansas City June 13 (5.0,1,0,0,1,2)...had team-high 15 scoreless innings streak snapped, but earned the win vs. Baltimore June 23 (6 IP, 2 ER)...optioned to Tacoma July 5 to make a start during the Major League All-Star break...made two starts, going 1-0, 4.00 with the Rainiers before being recalled to Seattle and placed on the 15-day disabled list July 31 with a strained right shoulder...made a rehab start at single-A Wisconsin (5.0,1,0,0,2,6) Aug. 22...shut down for the season after one inning in a rehab start with single-A Everett Aug. 27 with discomfort in his right shoulder.

Led Mariners farm system with 168 strikeouts...3.44 ERA was third in the organization among starters...averaged 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings (168 K, 149.0 IP), fifth among Midwest League hurlers...was named Wisconsin's Co-Pitcher of the Year...was named to the MWL mid-season all-star squad.
