Chase Field Security

Heightened security measures established by Major League Baseball and the Arizona Diamondbacks will remain in effect for the D-backs season. We would like to remind you that these enhanced security measures might delay your entrance into the ballpark. Plan on arriving early to enjoy the game. These measures are for your safety. We understand that this may be an inconvenience, however due to the nature of current world events, we feel they are necessary. Thank you for your patience.

Q: Why is Chase Field using metal detectors?
A: Major League Baseball and the Arizona Diamondbacks value your safety! The league and our team work closely with the Department of Homeland Security and together it is our desire to make this ballpark and others around the country safe by utilizing enhanced security procedures.

Q: When will they start being used?
A: Major League Baseball has mandated all ballparks across the country use walk through metal detectors beginning in 2015. Chase Field began using them on April 3, 2015.

Q: What can I expect when I arrive at the Gate?
A: Signage will be placed in various locations leading up to each gate. As you approach a Gate your ticket will be scanned and our Guest Services Representatives will greet you and then instruct you to "Please remove your cell phone or larger metal objects ONLY and place them in the bin on the table or inside your personal handbag or backpack". Small sets of keys or change will not be required to be put into the bin. Security will then check any bags you may be carrying and then ask you to proceed through the detector.

Q: Does this mean I will have to come earlier?
A: No, we are making every effort to insure our enhanced procedure does not slow down the process of entering Chase Field. However, we always welcome our fans to come early and enjoy the ballpark sights and sounds.

Q: Are there changes to bag sizes?
A: Each fan may carry one bag that is clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC no larger than 12" x 6" x 12" or a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar). Additionally, fans may also carry a small clutch purse no larger than 4.5" x 6.5", with or without a handle or strap, that is subject to search. See a full list of approved and not approved bags here. The Arizona Diamondbacks require that fans utilize clear bags to reduce wait times at the gates.

Q: What if I come in with a mobility device?
A: Gates A, C, E, J, K and the Bridge Entrance will have lanes available for those who cannot go through a metal detector. Guests using these lanes will be subject to a light pat down search or use of hand wand as well inspection of the mobility device.

Q: What if I have a pacemaker?
A: Metal detectors are safe for all individuals including pregnant women, children, and guests with pacemakers. Metal detectors operate at a very low frequency of electromagnetic pulse. The electromagnetic levels are lower than you would be exposed to routinely from a cell phone or garage door opener. All metal detectors are manufactured in compliance with international technical as well as medical standards. The risk of disrupting a pacemaker is negligible. However, if you are concerned, there is an option of a pat down search.

Q: What if I have a medical implant and it sets the detector off?
A: We are aware of today's advance medical technologies and therefore if an alarm is triggered fans can be subject to security follow-up screening which may include the use of a hand wand or light pat down search.

Q: Will my children have to go through the metal detectors?
A: Major League Baseball requires all fans entering ballparks to walk through the metal detector. Parents may carry infants or toddlers through the metal detector. Children in strollers, who are old enough to walk, may be asked to walk through on their own or be accommodated at a wheelchair entrance where the child will be subject to a light pat down.

Q: Can I bring in my pocketknife?
A: Firearms and weapons of any kind, including knives are prohibited from entry. Pocketknives may be taken back to your vehicle. Chase Field will not hold or store personal items. We appreciate your understanding in the matter.

Q: I have a concealed weapon permit; can I bring in my firearm?
A: Major League Baseball and the Arizona Diamondbacks comply with a weapon-free workplace policy. That policy directs all teams to prohibit possession or use of a deadly weapon in our facility. Only active Federal or Arizona State Law Enforcement Officers will be authorized to enter with a firearm. Credentials will be verified at the time of entry.

Q: Chase Field is a public facility, what about my constitutional right to carry a weapon?
A: Chase Field, while it is a public facility, is privately operated. Private operators have the right to establish rules regarding what activities and behaviors are allowed inside the ballpark. Chase Field is a weapons-free facility and unless you're a member of a Federal or Arizona State law enforcement agency, you are not allowed to bring a weapon inside the ballpark.

• Increased presence of uniformed law enforcement at all games.
• Daily facility inspections by stadium and law enforcement personnel prior to gates opening to the public.
• Identification and inspection of all ballpark deliveries.
• Unauthorized vehicle parking prohibited within 100 feet of any ballpark entrance.
• Continued coordination and communication with all local and federal law enforcement agencies.

Fan safety continues to be our top priority at Chase Field. To ensure the safety of our guests and to provide an expedited ballpark entry process and enjoyable fan experience, the clear bag policy is effective starting February 15, 2020 at D-backs Fan Fest and all future Chase Field events.

Each fan may carry one bag that is clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC no larger than 12" x 6" x 12" or a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar). Additionally, fans may also carry a small clutch purse no larger than 4.5" x 6.5", with or without a handle or strap, that is subject to search. Guests carrying unapproved bags will be asked to return them to their vehicle. Complimentary, disposable clear plastic freezer bag will be available at several locations around the stadium perimeter, so guests may transfer their belongings to an approved bag. Empty, non-approved bags will still not be allowed into the stadium and must be returned to the guest's vehicle.

Guests arriving via mass transit (bus or light rail), taxi or ride share vehicle (Uber, Lyft) with unapproved bags may take advantage of storage lockers. Storage lockers are available on a first come first serve basis. Please note that all items being stored are subject to inspection. The Arizona Diamondbacks will not check or store items at the gates and are not responsible for items left behind, lost, stolen or damaged. BinBox is located on the NW plaza.

Please keep all small personal items (keys & wallet) in your pockets as you enter the inspection point but please keep your cell phone out and ready to have your mobile tickets scanned.

• OpenGate is a state-of-the-art wire-free, screening portal consisting of two independent and self-powered pillars, with each pillar equipped with a support base and electronic analysis system.
• Contrary to other solutions, Open-Gate does not require a mechanical and electrical connection between the two transducers that define the passageway, therefore there is no tripping hazard or barrier for wheelchairs or other mobility items.
• Contactless entry will positively impact the guest experience and efficiency of our entry points.

The following items are permitted at Chase Field:

Food

Food is permitted as long as it’s in a clear plastic bag. Any food item should be brought in an approved clear bag.

Beverages

• Only non-flavored/non-carbonated water in sealed, plastic bottles
• EMPTY plastic water bottles
• SEALED single serving juice boxes
• Formula/baby food

For fan safety and enjoyment, the following items are prohibited at Chase Field:

• No metal or glass containers for food or beverages will be permitted. Thermos containers or those similar in style will not be permitted.
• Animals (except for service animals)
• Alcohol
• Aerosol cans
• Drones and other remote controlled vehicles
• Drugs or other illegal substances (including medical marijuana)
• Firearms, knives or weapons of any kind
• Fireworks or other incendiary devices
• Camera Tri, Dual or Single Leg Pods by Non-Media Personnel
• Skateboards, rollerblades, scooters, razors or shoes with wheels
• Obscene, offensive, indecent or inappropriate clothing/attire
• Blow horns or Noisemakers
• Umbrellas
• Fishing Nets
• Beach Balls, balloons or other inflatables (without prior approval)
• Laser Pens
• Flags with poles not sold in the Team Shop or of a non-baseball nature.
• Banners containing commercial, political or obscene material or that block guest views
• Frisbees
• Bicycles (may be parked at approved bike parking racks)
• "Bubble-making" liquids, machines, etc. for blowing bubbles
• Backpacks
• Bags and wallets exceeding the size of a small clutch bag (6.5” W x 4.5” H)
• Luggage of any kind, computer bags, camera bags, briefcases, fanny packs, cinch bags or any bag larger than the permissible size (6.5” W x 4.5” H)

Additional items at the discretion of Chase Field management. The Arizona Diamondbacks reserve the right to inspect any items brought into Chase Field.

• Guests interfering with a ball in play will be ejected.
• Guests interfering with the progress of the game or going onto the field will be ejected and subject to arrest.
• Guests wearing obscene or indecent clothing will not be allowed entry to the ballpark.
• Guests using foul or abusive language or gestures will be ejected from the ballpark.
• Guests appearing intoxicated will be denied entry or ejected from the ballpark.
• Any guest found throwing objects on the field or in the seating areas will be ejected.
