A peek at the past
23-year-old Art Mahaffey set a Phillies record by striking out 17 Cubs in the second game of a Sunday doubleheader at Connie Mack Stadium on April 23, 1961. The record hasn't been matched or broken. He threw 146 pitches, of which only 48 were out of the strike zone.

Future Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander appears in his final game, pitching 2.0 innings of relief in the Phillies’ 5-1 loss to Boston at Braves Field.
May 28, 1983
Entering the game hitless in his last 18 at-bats, 3B Mike Schmidt strikes out four times on 12 pitches. The 13th pitch he sees is crushed for a two-run, game-winning homer off Jeff Reardon in the bottom of the ninth to give the Phillies a 5-3 win over Montreal.
May 28, 1989
3B Mike Schmidt plays his final game, going 0-for-3 with two walks in an 8-5 loss at San Francisco. He announces his retirement the following day in San Diego, then flies home to meet the Philadelphia media at Veterans Stadium.

RHP Roy Halladay tosses the 20th perfect game in major league history, a 1-0 win over the Marlins in Miami. He throws 115 pitches (72 for strikes) and records 11 strikeouts.

Brad Miller becomes the first Phillies player in the modern era (since 1900) to start five straight team games at five different positions. Beginning on May 24, Miller starts games at right field, left field, third base, second base and first base.
