May 18: RHP Joe Musgrove cleared to return
Padres manager Mike Shildt had penciled in Musgrove to start on Sunday after the righty came out of his throwing session Friday without an issue. Instead, that start will go to Yu Darvish after the game Saturday was postponed because of weather.

Musgrove, who has been on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation, likely will return during the Padres' upcoming series in Cincinnati. He last pitched on May 1 against the Reds and went six innings, allowing two runs and four hits with a season-high nine strikeouts and no walks.

May 18: OF David Peralta signs Minor League contract
A longtime NL West foe of the Padres, Peralta reported to Triple-A El Paso and was in the Chihuahuas’ lineup on Saturday. Peralta was in the Cubs’ organization to start 2024 but elected free agency on May 10. A Silver Slugger Award winner with the D-backs in 2018 and a Gold Glover the following year, Peralta posted a .675 OPS in 422 plate appearances with the Dodgers last year.

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

RHP Joe Musgrove (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return:
Possibly May 21
Musgrove was set to return May 19 against the Braves before a rainout Saturday altered the Padres' pitching plans. He has been cleared, however. It's just a matter of when manager Mike Shildt chooses to drop him back in the rotation. (Last updated: May 18)

RHP Luis Patiño (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: 2025
Patiño underwent Tommy John surgery on April 30, putting an end to his 2024 season before it began. The 24-year-old made two appearances in Spring Training before opening the season on the IL. The Padres, who originally signed Patiño as an amateur free agent before dealing him to Tampa Bay in the 2020 Blake Snell trade, claimed Patiño off waivers from the White Sox in December. IF/OF (surgery for torn right ACL)
Expected return:
First half
Marcano has begun taking ground balls as he progresses in his rehab from a torn ACL. The 24-year-old utilityman had surgery last August after injuring his knee while playing for the Pirates against the Padres on July 24. He does not yet have a set date to return to game action but will continue ramping up his baseball activity. (Last updated: April 12)

RHP (right shoulder teres major strain)
Expected return: First half
After dealing with shoulder trouble last season, Otto suffered a setback during the early stages of camp, and he's yet to pitch in Cactus League games. On March 9, manager Mike Shildt offered some clarity, noting that Otto is still in the rehab stage of his recovery, though he added that Otto is getting "closer to playing catch and baseball activity." The Padres claimed Otto off waivers from the Rangers last September. He was expected to be part of their rotation competition, but instead he opened the year on the injured list.
